Duncan’s Beige Crayon celebrates Mocha Mousse, Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2025

Hi,

Remember me? From the book, The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt with pictures by Oliver Jeffers? No?

I’m not surprised. No one remembers me. Because I’m beige. No one wants to color with me – because what kid in his right mind wants to color with beige. Kids are not coloring wheat fields. They are coloring dragons, monsters, heroes, sunshines, rainbows, and deep blue oceans. And none of those are beige.

They’re coloring green hills and grey mountains. They’re coloring bright yellow lightning bolds and dark brown mud. They’re coloring rainbow unicorns, candy of every color (except beige) and green Christmas trees with blue, red, green and yellow lights. They’re coloring orange fruit and cars! None of those are beige either.

Beige wheatfields or warm cups of beige coffee don’t fill the imaginations of Gen-Alpha. And although the #beigemom, who only decorates with soothing muted colors is currently trending on social media, her kids are not having it. I know. Because I’m writing this as I sit here all alone in the crayon box.

The thing is, kids grow up. And they turn into beige moms. Because beige is “soothing” and “warming” and makes people feel generally cozy. Case in point – the crayon box I’m sitting in happens to be in a beige room as I write this.

I’m not entirely sure what this beige trend is all about. I suppose, under the weight of shame, the grown ups of the world feel obligated to make beige boujee. Things spiraled out of control in a beige swirl and Pantone decided to call me Mocha Mousse and make me their 2025 color of the year.

Well, Pantone? I’ll take your beige year and raise you a beige decade!

2025 is going to be so beige you won’t even be able to come up with another color for 2026. You’ll rename Mocha Mousse and call it Warm Latte. Then in 2027, another name change, Enticing Ecru. You see where I’m going with this. 2025 – 2035 will be a kalidescope of khaki!

Think of how short I’ll be if Pantone and the beige moms keep this trend alive. I’ll be the most popular crayon in Duncan’s crayon box – simply because everything is beige. Turns out I’m one of the cool crayons now!

Welcome to the Boujee Beige, baby!

Seriously, though. We’re pretty excited about Mocha Mousse here at Kim Funk Creative, it goes well with the sourdough hobby we picked up over the break. So we’ve decided to add it to our color pallet.

If you’d like to get a little boujee with beige or see how Mocha Mousse can add some warmth to your brand, stay tuned for inspo. And if you’d like your blog or social media to feature stories like this one, let’s set up a consultation. Reach out here.

Oh, and if you like sourdough, don’t worry. I’m pretty sure there’ll be some sourdough stories this year too.

Happy New Year my boujee beige buddies!
