Venturing into Video

Great blog content can be the foundation for your social media strategy. But social media is pretty bland if you don’t spice it up with some video.

In fact, if content is king of the web, video is the king of content. It helps establish trust and credibility, grabs your audience’s attention and when the video is of you, video helps you create deep meaningful connections with your audience. Even when you’re wearing a hat, hoodie and no make-up like the video I recorded below.

In fact, some of the most meaningful content I’ve ever seen is as raw as this…

Today, anyone can create a decent video.

Video doesn’t have to be fancy, or overproduced. Spend some time on TikTok and you’ll see what I mean. Get comfortable talking to your computer or phone like it’s your best friend. Selfie videos are simple to produce, easy to edit and so hot right now. Get comfortable in front of the camera and hop on this trend!

If you’re camera shy, or you want to spice it up even more, tools like Canva have several templates and animation features that you can use to create animated videos. Or create your own with Canva’s animation features, like the one below. These short videos work well on LinkedIn and as Instagram Reels.

Looks pretty easy, right.

But, as easy as these are to consume, even the easiest videos require some planning if you want to hit the mark. Videos should provide enough detail to be interesting but not so many elements that they distract the viewer from the main message. Recording a live video takes time and you may need to do several takes.

For a more produced video, you’ll want to prepare a script, shot list and a storyboard.. These videos take more time to plan and shoot. A good editor can cut multiple takes into a seamless experience for your audience.

In post-production, you can add transitions to keep the story flowing, captions to highlight important points and bumpers at the beginning and end to frame the story. You can even move around pieces of the original footage around to tell the story in a more meaningful way.

Planning all of the elements ahead of time will save you time when it comes to recording. Controlling as many variables as possible. And if you just want to focus on the shoot, I get it. Kim Funk Creative can handle everything behind the scenes from the topics to the script to the final edits – so when we say action, you really feel like you’re sitting down talking to an old friend.
