Welcome to The Content Engine. A little space on the web where I create content about…
Content.
Here’s where you’ll learn about content marketing and why it’s important. I’ll talk about the different types of content used in digital marketing campaigns. And show you how to put them together into a marketing strategy.
But first, a little marketing history.
Content marketing is to the internet what television advertising was to television back in the 1960s and 1970s. It’s simultaneously educational and engaging. Entertaining and informative. Done well, it pops up everywhere – just like the TV commercials of yesteryear. All to make your brand a household name.
I know, the TV commercials are still out there. But in today’s world of streaming services, it’s easier and easier to skip over those commercials. Besides, people usually aren’t watching television when they’re working. Instead, they’re on the internet. And this is where your content comes in.
Let’s take a look at the evolution.
50 years ago, TV commercials were key to brand growth. Evenings between 7pm and 10pm became known as Prime Time. Brands paid top dollar to get their name in front of families who sat down to enjoy programming after dinner.
Creative departments worked tirelessly to create the most entertaining 30-second spots to hook you and keep you in front of the television during commercial breaks.
The bigger your brand, the more money you could invest in prime-time ad spots, and the best creatives. Big brands grew bigger – and the little guys had to settle for the time that was left over…
The Internet changed that. Suddenly, advertisers had a new captive audience. And while there’s still paid advertising all over the internet, search engines like Google help smaller brands get in front of their audience through organic traffic driven by content.
Content comes in many forms –
- Social Media Posts
- Video
- Podcasts
- Landing Pages
- eBooks
- Webinars
- Newsletters
- Email Campaigns
- And the workhorse at the center – the BLOG.
A good content marketer can repurpose their blogs into all the other forms of content. You’ll see how to take snippets and develop them into quotes, carousels and video clips to start. As we go along, I’ll show you how to turn a blog into a podcast or a series into a slide deck for a webinar.
So follow along on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to see the blog’s journey in real-time.
Thanks for stepping on the Content Engine! I can’t wait to show you around.
